I’m Jon: tea-lover, husband, father, photographer, writer, book-worm, teacher, cricket-watcher, Peak-District explorer. Not necessarily in that order! I live in Derby with my wife Anna and our beautiful daughters Eleanor and Sophie.
Anna introduced me to cricket when we met. Until then I couldn’t see the point of a game that lasted for five days and could end in a rain-induced draw! However, by the time I proposed to her in 2010, we couldn’t think of a better venue than a cricket ground for our wedding reception! At the time, it was certainly the best day of my life – joint best now, since Ellie and Sophie arrived! – and well worth all the hours of planning that went into it.
We LOVE looking back at our album and reminiscing about our day. We love that Ellie and Sophie are both now old enough so that we can sit down and show her how young and good-looking her parents once were!
As a wedding photographer who covers Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield and, frankly, all over the UK I’ve had the pleasure of working at some fantastic wedding venues with some amazing couples! My style combines elements of reportage or photo-journalism, fine art and fashion photography.
Many of my shots are reportage style – I tell the story of your wedding day through my photography, from the early morning bridal preparations, right the way through the wedding ceremony, the wedding reception and the first dance. These candid shots are often taken with a long lens, meaning that your guests are often not even aware that we’re photographing them. I love reportage-style wedding photography because it can capture all sorts of spontaneous, genuine moments – and the emotions that accompany those moments.
When it comes to the bride and groom portraits however, I need to mix things up a little bit in order to create the photographs that you’ll treasure forever. This is where some more posing on your part comes in.
However, I still like to keep things relaxed, spontaneous and natural – I don’t spend hours setting up one shot and ask you to stand in an awkward position for ages! What I do try to do is to make the most of the beautiful locations that your choice of wedding venue will no doubt offer, and create some dramatic, romantic and downright beautiful photographs! The kind of photographs that you are going to want to hang on your wall and show off to the whole wide world!
So, if you like the style of my photography and think it might be right for your wedding, please let me know! I would absolutely love to hear all about your exciting wedding plans!
I’ve been photographing weddings since 2009, so rest assured that you’re in safe hands!
On a wedding day, you can be sure that I’ll always be within easy reach, happy to help with everything from cravats to buttonholes. By the time we get to the wedding day, we’ll have met a few times and had your engagement shoot, so I’ll be a friendly, reassuring face.
Jon thinks that he manages the day-to-day running of Jon Cripwell Photography, but his wife Anna is responsible for much of the behind-the-scenes work that is vital to providing the excellent service we deliver to our couples. From overseeing the booking process to handling requests and queries and planning out our social media content, Anna ensures that the business runs smoothly and to the high standards we have set for ourselves.
I’ve known and worked with Abbi for over ten years now. She is a fantastic photographer and is always looking for a different angle on a wedding day.
As well as her photography skills, Abbi is also a dancer, choreographer (she offers a First Dance course for anyone interested in creating something special for the big day) and writer. An all-around creative!
